Listening on the go on iPhone and Mac: test before you travel

Prepare documents and voices before a trip. A practical iPhone and Mac checklist, with playback and iCloud sync clearly distinguished.

An offline text-to-speech app is useful only if the document and voice you need are already on your device. Before relying on it for a flight, commute or reading session, test that exact combination without a connection.

What offline listening does—and does not—mean

With Tissyo Voice, speech is generated on your device. Preparing the library can still involve a connection: downloading a voice, saving a web article or synchronising through iCloud is different from playing an already available document. Offline playback is not a promise that every service in the app works without a network.

Your pre-flight listening checklist

  1. Save a representative document. Choose the kind of material you actually read, rather than a short sample that hides layout problems.
  2. Check the extracted text. On a PDF, inspect headings, columns and a paragraph near the end. A scanned page may need text recognition; check names and numbers before listening.
  3. Select the voice and language. Play a paragraph while connected first and complete any download the app requests.
  4. Disconnect and repeat. On iPhone, enable airplane mode and make sure Wi-Fi is also off. On Mac, disconnect the network. Open the saved document and play several paragraphs.
  5. Test resuming. Pause, leave the document and return to it. Check the listening position before you depend on it during a journey.

Choosing an iPhone or Mac voice

Judge a voice using your own material: a paragraph with abbreviations, a proper name and a long sentence. Start at a comfortable speed, then increase it only while you can still follow the meaning. Available voices and downloads can differ between devices; test the device you plan to carry.

Tissyo Voice supports reading on iPhone, iPad and Mac, with word-by-word tracking and adjustable playback speed. For a practical document workflow, see preparing a PDF for audio reading.

Keep local playback separate from cloud sync

Generating speech locally avoids sending the text to a remote speech-generation service. Library synchronisation through iCloud is a separate feature and needs a connection. Check your settings and the Voice privacy policy before adding confidential material; follow your organisation’s rules as well.

Before choosing an app

  • Can it read your actual document correctly?
  • Does the selected voice play when disconnected?
  • Is the listening experience comfortable over several pages?
  • Does the purchase cover the platform you use? Check the current App Store terms rather than assuming that iOS and Mac purchases are interchangeable.

Tissyo Voice uses a one-time purchase model rather than a recurring subscription. The current offer and platform requirements are shown on the product page and in the App Store.

Can I listen to a web page offline?

Save its readable content while connected, then test the saved copy offline. A link by itself is not an offline copy of an article.

Why test a PDF before leaving?

The file may be available locally but its reading order can still be awkward. Checking one multi-column page and a later paragraph helps catch that before the journey.
