A venue can have working Wi-Fi and still prevent participants from reaching your Mac. Before choosing an interactive presentation setup, separate two questions: is there internet access, and can devices communicate on the local network?
Local Wi-Fi is not the same as internet access
Preparation works fully offline. For the live session, the Mac needs an Internet connection: participants join through Tissyo’s encrypted session relay (go.tissyo.com), which passes answers to your Mac and is not designed to store them. Answers are then kept on your Mac. Test the room’s Internet access, not just the Wi-Fi name: the Mac must be online, and participants’ phones must be able to reach go.tissyo.com (Wi-Fi or mobile data).
Run this test in the room
- Connect the Mac and a test phone to the intended network. Complete any venue sign-in page first.
- Open a test session and use its joining link or QR code. Check the page loads on the phone.
- Submit one answer. Confirm that it reaches the session on the Mac. Loading the page alone is not enough.
- Ask about participant capacity. A test with one phone cannot guarantee that a crowded network will cope with the whole group.
- Agree on a fallback. If the network isolates devices, ask the venue for an approved alternative. Do not assume that a hotspot or an internet relay will be allowed or available.
What to ask the venue
“Can participants and the presenter’s Mac communicate on the same local network? Does guest Wi-Fi isolate devices? Is there a captive portal, and who can help if joining fails?” These questions are more useful than simply asking whether the room has Wi-Fi.
If the local connection is blocked
For questions about your setup, contact Interact Support. Do not include participant information in a test question.
Keep a no-phone fallback
Prepare one question that people can answer in pairs or by a show of hands. If joining fails, run that activity while you resolve the connection. Your learning objective can survive a network problem even when a digital activity cannot.
Prepare the material before the session
Keep the session file and the material you need on the Mac, then reopen them before travelling. For the content side, see adding interaction to existing slides. For handling participant information, read the local-first data workflow.
