Many facilitation tools live in a browser: you open a tab, sign in, prepare online, deliver online. It works — until the day the train has no signal, the room has flaky wifi, or the tab reloads at the worst possible moment. We made a different choice: SnapInteract is a native macOS application. That is not an engineering footnote; it is a series of very concrete benefits for a trainer. This article walks through them, one by one.
The browser was never designed to run a room
A browser tab is a guest in an environment it does not control. It depends on a permanent connection to the vendor’s servers, it shares memory with your twenty other tabs, and it can be reloaded, disconnected or put to sleep by the system without asking you. For reading a document, that is harmless. For holding a room of fifteen participants for three hours, every micro-outage costs you attention.
A native application runs directly on your machine. It starts without a sign-in page, keeps your decks at hand even without a network, and speaks natively to the hardware: a second screen for the projector view, keyboard shortcuts, fine-grained projection control. These are things a web app does with compromises, and a macOS app does naturally.

On the day, a simple local wifi is enough for participants to join — and if the phones are not on the same network, an optional internet relay takes over, without storing your data at rest. Your sessions live in a file, on your disk
In a web app, your content lives in a database at the vendor’s. You can access it as long as the service is up, as long as your subscription runs, as long as the company exists. In SnapInteract, your courses, sessions and participant answers live in a local file on your Mac, with automatic saving and a backup copy. Your data stays on your Mac: we keep nothing on our servers.
That choice cascades. You can back up that file like any document. You never need to export your content ‘before leaving’: it is already yours. And when you want to share a debrief, the PDF export of the statistics and the zip of visuals are generated on demand, locally.

Fluidity is not a luxury when you facilitate. Advancing a slide, launching a quiz, revealing results: each of these gestures must respond instantly, because the room is watching you. A native application executes these actions on the spot, without a round trip to a server; the latency of an action is your Mac’s, not your connection’s.

An iPhone and Apple Watch remote, over the local network
Being native on Mac also means being native in the Apple ecosystem. SnapInteract comes with an iPhone and Apple Watch remote: your phone discovers the Mac automatically on the local network, a six-digit code secures the pairing, and you are free to walk the room while keeping control — advancing, launching an activity, watching the timer from your wrist.
The technical point that matters: there is no cloud between the iPhone and the Mac. The command leaves your pocket and reaches your machine over the room’s network, with local-network latency — that is, imperceptible. The whole setup is described on the piloting page.
